Software company Micro Focus, which is registered at the London Stock Exchange, wants to buy Attachmate for roughly 1.2 billion dollars. The plan is to merge by November.
Attachmate owns Novell, which in turn owns Suse. Micro Focus produces Cobol software and owns Borland. Both companies are focused on modernising the mainframe market.
Suse President Nils Brauckmann has declared in talks with the OpenSUSE Board that the takeover will not change anything in the current situation of Suse or OpenSuse. Suse will continue to financially support the open source project, Suse Linux Enterprise will continue as a product.
