Version 14.10 betas for Ubuntu variants released

The first betas for version 14.10 of the Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME and Ubuntu Kylin variants of Ubuntu have been released. Canonical itself will, as usual, only release a Final Beta a few weeks before Ubuntu 14.10 is ready.

Kubuntu 14.10 Beta 1 includes KDE Software Collection 4.14. There’s a special test image for the Plasma 5 desktop as well. The Ubuntu GNOME beta uses GNOME 3.12; Xubuntu and Lubuntu only bring smaller updates.

Meanwhile Ubuntu’s daily builds are available in two versions now. One uses Unity 7 and the “Ubuntu Desktop Next” image uses Unity 8. The next version of Canonical’s desktop is still a bit too experimental for daily use ATM.

Ubuntu 14.10 is scheduled for release on 23 October.
